Italy edges Albania for first win in UEFA Euro 2024
Late penalty kick by Immobile gives Italy three points
Italy started Euro 2024 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Albania on Saturday at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
The Azzurri fell behind early when Albania's Armando Broja scored in the 23rd second, but goals from Nicolo Barella and Ciro Immobile gave Italy the win.
Barella equalized in the 18th minute with a fine strike from outside the box, and Immobile converted a penalty in the 83rd minute after he was fouled by Berat Gjimshiti.
The win gives Italy three points in Group A, while Albania remains on zero points after two matches.
Italy will face Wales in their next match on Wednesday, while Albania will take on Switzerland.
